Hello from the Heartland! I'm Karen. This is my place to share inspiration and projects for making your own natural fiber and eco-friendly furnishings, farmhouse-style.
After years of big city living in Chicago, Paris, New York and San Francisco, while chasing a career in textile product development, I’ve come home to the Midwest. Life here is a little less hectic allowing me to reconnect with the country lifestyle I knew growing up.
One of the things I like most about this region is the beautiful, old farmhouses that still dot the countryside. I’m drawn in by the natural materials and handcrafted details that were once common features of these 19th century homesteads: wood plank floors, rugs and quilts made from reclaimed fabrics, wool bedding, stone walls and rustic ceramics.
Here at my home in Wisconsin (not the farmhouse I had longed for but old and creaky just the same!) I enjoy making all kinds of farmhouse-inspired furnishings using healthy home fabrics like sustainably produced hemp & linen, organic cotton, eco-wool and vintage finds.
I’m excited to show you what I’m working on and hope you’ll join in to share your farmhouse-style.
