Make your own eco-bedding and save a bundle!
I made a full/queen comforter cover and two standard pillowcases from Harmony Art’s certified organic cotton sateen for $120. That’s $75 less than the ready-made versions found at Coyuchi, a manufacturer of beautiful organic cotton bedding.
Organic Cotton Duvet Cover Instructions
MATERIALS:
5 yards Harmony Art Organic Cotton Sateen 110” wide --- this amount will make one full/queen size cover and two standard pillowcases. Find it at http://www.nearseanaturals.com/browse.php?category=26
Thread to match fabric
5 buttons, 5/8"
PREP
Square and trim yardage at cut ends. Overlock or zigzag raw edges.
WASH
Pre-wash fabric, cold wash and warm dry. Press fabric flat.
CUT
Lay fabric flat and then fold in half on the cross grain. Cut as follows:
SEW
Make button opening and stitch seams per steps 1 through 6:

I've made similar duvet covers by buying two top sheets and sewing them together! You can even choose two different types of fabric!
